Women's Health

As healthcare increasingly shifts toward personalized, preventive, and value-based models, there is a growing imperative to expand education in applied nutrition and functional approaches within women’s health. Across the lifespan—from childhood and adolescence through reproductive years, menopause, and healthy aging—women experience distinct physiological transitions shaped by hormonal, metabolic, psychosocial, and environmental influences.
Despite these complexities, conventional care models often rely on episodic, symptom-focused interventions that may not adequately address the individualized nutritional and lifestyle needs of women at each life stage. Applied nutrition and functional frameworks offer a complementary, evidence-informed perspective that emphasizes root-cause assessment, lifestyle factors, and biochemical individuality. Integrating these approaches into women’s healthcare education has the potential to improve clinical outcomes, support patient empowerment, and advance health equity.
This initiative at the UGA School of Medicine aims to provide structured, practical education on applied nutrition across the female lifespan, equipping clinicians with tools to deliver more personalized, proactive, and integrative care.
